Ten years ago a retired teacher, Gisela Soefner, and a retired policeman, Ralf Neumann

left Germany to have a quiet and relaxed life in Spain.

They bought a big plot with a beautiful Finca.

But then they noticed all these animals here in the countryside that needed help and

made up their mind to help them.

Now 10 years later we have helped horses, ponies and especially dogs.

We take them in, have them treated by the vets, who vaccinate and sterilize them

and then we try to find good homes for them.

Meanwhile we found good friends who help us a lot to cuddle the dogs,

ride the horses and raise money so that we can go on

rescuing animals and give them good medical treatment. A special thank you goes to

Each year all of our dogs here on Finca Lucendum have to have their

heartworm injection

to prevent them from getting the HEARTWORM DISEASE.

This disease is caused by stitches of mosquitos.

Small filaria can enter the dogs body.

The worms migrate on different ways to the lungs, the veins and the heart.

The adult heartworm produces babies that go into the blood circulation.

The dogs start to cough, have a nosebleed, the fur changes significantly.

Later on the dogs can die of failure of the liver.

This is the reason why prevention is so important.

You can do it monthly with tablets or yearly with an injection.

Because we have got so many dogs here we do it yearly.

The price for the injections against heartworm is:

small dog : : 40 Euros

medium sized dog : 61 Euros

large dog : 72 Euros
